Established in Des Moines, Iowa, 2021

My name is Kim, and I’m the owner of Domestic Bones. I’ve had a lifelong passion for food and a dream of starting my own business—one rooted in providing my community with unique, high-quality comfort food.

Domestic Bones was created in 2021, and we quickly found our specialty in savory hand pies.

We’re a family-run business that values connection just as much as what we make. Whether it’s pie pickup or the farmers market, we love getting to know our customers. We also enjoy collaborating with other local businesses and are always open to being part of special events that call for good food.

Domestic Bones operates out of the Mickle Center in the Sherman Hill neighborhood of Des Moines. This historic building has been thoughtfully renovated to support nonprofits and small businesses like ours, and it’s the perfect home base for what we do.

We take a different approach—working without a traditional storefront so we can focus on quality over quantity and have a flexible schedule. Instead of fixed hours, we bake with intention and sell through seasonal subscriptions, wholesale partnerships, and the Downtown Farmers’ Market.
